Micro Wedding
All you need is 12 people to get a dance floor going. That’s what we learned while shooting Sam and Christina’s micro wedding at Canoe Atlanta.
But, before we get into the fun, an emotional note: the pair was married at Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta with only their nearest and dearest by their side. Being present for such an incredibly intimate ceremony, their vows echoing through the nave, was so powerful and it gives us so much hope that love and togetherness will always win, even in the hardest of times. The couple even did a “first touch” before the ceremony where everything else in the world seemed to slip away as they locked hands. This is what it’s all about.
Okay, now back to your regularly scheduled joyful wedding programming (spoiler: there are glow sticks involved)...
Two Electrical Engineers Walk Into a Room...And Watch the Bachelor
That’s how Sam and Christina met. They were both pursuing their Master’s in Electrical Engineering and ended up at a friend’s house one Bachelor Monday night. While neither went home with a First Impression Rose that evening, the two started dating a few years later.
As they realized they wanted to spend their lives together, Sam got to work planning a proposal. And another. And another. Yes, it took two false starts on proposal plans before the third time was the charm –– and Christina’s answer was a resounding yes.
An Intimate Wedding at Canoe Atlanta
Like all 2020 couples, Sam and Christina’s wedding may not have looked quite like they imagined but the celebration was everything they hoped for. They held their micro wedding reception at Canoe Atlanta, a quintessentially Southern venue on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Under a classic wedding tent, vintage-inspired chandeliers hung above a singular dining table (one advantage of a micro wedding: no seating chart!).
In her Justin Alexander ballgown dress, with its removable lace bodice and sleeves, Christina twirled around the dance floor with her groom until the guests couldn’t stay put in their chairs a moment longer. Out came the glow sticks, the family dances, and the memories. This group knows it’s not the size of the wedding that makes it a party, it’s the people.
Lastly, we’ll leave you with one word of advice from the couple to others planning their wedding, “Don't forget to plan the cleanup! Even with 12 people and an easy day, we completely forgot to clean up the venue and left our families to manage it for us after our get-away.” Now we’re wondering if they really forgot ;)
