I love shooting in iconic California locales, so I was thrilled to join Halie and Mason for this Santa Monica Pier engagement session. 

Boy Meets Girl on Campus

Halie and Mason met back in 2016 at the University of La Verne, where Halie was a grad student and Mason was coaching baseball. These two danced around each other for the first year, occasionally saying hello on campus, but neither one quite ready to make the move that would change everything. Then, during Halie’s second year of grad school, this pair started to hang out more and realized, okay, this could be a thing. 

Proposal on Home Plate

Fast forward two years later to August 2018. Mason got down on one knee and surprised Halie with a home plate proposal at the school where both their love and their careers blossomed. Now, these two are looking forward to spending their days laughing and being their true, silly selves together. 

A Dreamy Santa Monica Pier Engagement Session

Something I love about shooting in busy, bustling locations is the sense of vibrancy that you get from everything else passing by in the background. We don’t need to wait for the perfect moment where there’s no one around––those people help tell the story! Plus, when you’re in focus while the rest of the world speeds by, it’s a reminder that you two are the only ones that matter in that moment. 

That’s exactly the vibe we got with Halie and Mason’s Santa Monica Pier engagement session! There are people strolling on the beach, exploring the boardwalk, walking their dogs, yet all eyes are on the adorable couple. Add in a romantically overcast day that cleared up just in time for golden hour to peek over the horizon, and we had the recipe for a perfectly dreamy seaside shoot.
