Karolyn & Nick

Karolyn and Nick kicked off their engagement session with a darling in-home shoot before venturing into Griffith Park just in time for that perfect golden hour light.

Is there anything sweeter than a science class crush that stands the test of time? Karolyn and Nick met freshman year of high school when she couldn’t help but join in on Nick’s hilarious antics. Ten years later, these two are still cracking each other up. Karolyn and Nick have been through years of long distance, staying strong and smiling through it all––school, internships, and career moves.

The Proposal

In 2018, as Karolyn was wrapping up an internship in Burbank, Nick came into town for a visit and they found themselves at Huntington Libraries and Botanical Gardens in Pasadena. As they strolled through the rose gardens and through a lush tunnel of greenery, Nick surprised Karolyn by dropping to one knee. She answered with a giddy “YES!” and turned around to find Nick’s sister and her boyfriend hiding behind them capturing the big moment on film. The entire proposal continued as a family affair when both of their families were waiting for them when they arrived to dinner that evening. This is a group full of genuine, warm love that just couldn’t wait to celebrate these adorable high school sweethearts! And, if you’re not already swooning over Nick’s proposal planning, get ready to utter a collective, “aaaw!” Nick found Karolyn’s stunning and unique ring through a jeweler in Israel and, while the jeweler had discontinued the style, his mother was able to sweet talk them into making it one final time––using her diamond, which has been now been worn by three amazing women in Nick’s family.

Engagement Session Day!

For such a loving, easy-to-be-around and quick-to-laugh couple, it seemed only fitting that we’d start the day off with an in-home engagement session. Couples like Karolyn and Nick make our job easy, especially when their space is straight out of a magazine! I mean, that gallery wall and front porch–-this is what photo shoot dreams are made of. These two spent the afternoon relaxing, chatting, and belly laughing. We couldn’t have asked for a cozier, more intimate shoot. Add in their cat, Luna, and, seriously, this is in-home engagement shoot perfection.

Engagement shoot tip: Karolyn nailed her engagement photo look with this mustard-colored sweater! There’s no better way to make your outfit pop than to add a bold and flattering color that you feel great in.

After we wrapped up at Karolyn and Nick’s place, we headed over to Griffith Park at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains. There’s such a diverse and incredible range of terrain––it’s an awesome spot for an outdoor engagement sessions! We trekked through the park until we reached this magical forest right at golden hour. The soft light played off of Karolyn’s gorgeous, gauzy dress for an absolute fairytale vision. While the first half of their engagement session had all the comfy, happy vibes, this Griffith Park shoot was pure romance. Look at those stolen gazes and flirtatious twirls, have you ever seen a couple so in love?!
